Modules are designed for use at a carrier frequency of 868.3 MHz. The PCB section containing the battery clips can be broken away if not used, resulting in a module equal in size to the F143-Mini-A-MOD. It can be powered either by the batteries or the debug adapter. The F143-Mini-B-MOD module is equipped with two 1.5 V LR44 batteries and a chip antenna.

No impedance control, controlled di-electric instead. Standard two layer PCB, FR4, 1mm core, 35um (1 oz) copper.

For additional documentation and software resources for developing radio applications see: See below for links to the F143 Mini Kit Quick-start guide and for PCB design files. Note: If purchasing this board without the F143-MINI-2-GEVK kit, the AXDBG Debug Adapter much also be purchased for programming. The F143-MINI-2-GEVK (AX8052F143 Mini Development Kit) can be found here: F143-MINI-2-GEVK RF performance will be reduced but the board is still useful for evaluation and software development. This board is optimized for operation at 868MHz, however it can be re-programmed for operation in the 915MHz band by using our RadioLab software. This module does not allow for batteries to be connected but can be powered via the debug adapter. The F143-Mini-A-MOD module is equipped with an SMA connector that may be used either to connect a 50 Ohm whip antenna or measurement equipment. With dozens of available online tutorials for SDR-based projects, PlutoSDR boasts labs and teaching material covering topics such as ADS-B aircraft position, receiving NOAA and Meteor-M2 weather satellite imagery, GSM analysis, listening to TETRA signals, pager decoding, and many more!

Because PlutoSDR is enabled by libiio drivers, it supports OS X ®, Windows ®, and Linux ®, which allows students to learn and explore on a variety of devices. Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket, the PlutoSDR is completely self-contained and entirely USB powered with the default firmware.

The active learning module can generate or acquire RF analog signals from 325 MHz to 3800 MHz at up to 61.44 megasamples per second (MSPS).

The PlutoSDR features independent receive and transmit channels that can be operated in full duplex. Made for Teachers, Students, and Self-Learners MATLAB and Simulink are two of the many software packages supported by PlutoSDR, and it provides an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) so students can learn faster, work smarter, and explore more.

The PlutoSDR works as a portable lab that, when used with a host, can augment classroom learning. Designed for students at all levels and from all backgrounds, the module can be used for both instructor-led and self-directed learning to help students develop a foundation in real-world RF and communications that they can build on as they pursue science, technology, or engineering degrees. I would recommend using this locomotive in Trainz 2019 however, since using it in anything below 2019 won’t look nearly as detailed as it does in the newest Trainz game. The easy to use ADALM-PLUTO active learning module (PlutoSDR) helps introduce electrical engineering students to the fundamentals of software-defined radio (SDR), radio frequency (RF), and wireless communications. Overall, the pro’s heavily outweigh the cons, and it’s worth spending $14.00. These however are mostly just nitpicks and can be completely disregarded since they don’t affect my overall score at all. Speaking of the cab, I would’ve liked to have some of the buttons and switched be usable instead of being placed as part of the model. There are also some minor inaccuracies with the custom cab numbers as well. I assume that Jointed Rail is aware of this since all of their Amtrak heritage units have the round headlight modeled onto them. My only real “complaints” are that the nose light is inaccurate, since all Amtrak P42’s (with the exception of a select few) have a round nose headlight instead of a home-plate nose light. It almost feels like I’m actually driving the locomotive. I have to say, this might be Jointed Rail’s best locomotive that they’ve made so far, mainly having to do with the locomotive’s custom cab.

Now I have Trainz 2019 and in an effort to take advantage of the graphical upgrades of the game, I re-downloaded the locomotive and it looks even better. I bought this locomotive 5 years ago when I had Trainz 2012, and it looked amazing.
